Blank Check Podcast Review

The Pitch:

Reviews of directors’ entire filmographies.

The Product:

Have you ever listened to a podcast where two white guys review films and thought ‘I like it, but couldn’t they get more specific? Couldn’t they delve deeper into movie insider knowledge and really parse out every last detail?’ Well, bud, I got one for ya.

Blank Check features the vaguely neurotic, but endlessly entertaining Griffin Newman and the intimidatingly knowledgeable David Sims. They are an actor/comedian and film critic, respectively.

The premise, as mentioned, is reviewing entire filmographies, specifically from directors who have been given a ‘blank check’ to make passion projects, based on their early success.

Of course, as podcasts go, it’s absolutely more than this. It can seem impenetrable — and if you don’t like a certain director, that batch of episodes may be — but stick with it and another world of in-jokes, unabashed fandom, and high level film insight will be revealed.

The eponymous ‘Two Friends’ have the charisma and chemistry that most of the other 6 billion podcast hosts would kill a Baby Yoda/*insert appropriate trending mascot here* for.

Can You Sleep To It?

Probably not, but maybe you can. And who am I to judge what you sleep to?

Recommended Episode:

A recent episode on Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense ft. Demi Adejuyigbe ticks several of our boxes.
