Matt Apodaca Interview

Matt Apodaca is a producer at Earwolf, a podcast host, and a comedian. You might know him from his contributions to the How Did This Get Played? podcast which features Nick Wiger (Doughboys) and Heather Anne Campbell (a long list of comedy credits). Or from his solo podcast project What’s With These Homies Talkin’ About Weezer?

Matt talks about the first podcast he ever made, the current state of podcasting, and Weezer. But to be fair, I asked him about Weezer.

When did you start listening to podcasts and what was the first you were a fan of?

I believe my first podcast experience was in high school? I definitely knew what they were at that time but maybe hadn’t really heard any. I remember as a joke my drama teacher and I recorded one during some free time while getting ready for a play. But they definitely became a fixture of my daily life in college. The Robin Williams WTF episode got my attention, from there I found stuff like Doug Loves Movies, Comedy Death Ray (pre-Bang Bang), which then got me to go to the UCB theater to see the live stand up show and Doug’s show. Mike Detective was huge for me too.

What is the most challenging part of making HDTGP? Is it the editing, the time playing sub-par games, or something else, possibly Wiger-related?
