Punch Up The Jam Podcast Review

--

The Premise:

Comedian Miel Brado punches up bad popular songs and discusses good ones.

The Product:

Up front update: This podcast used to have two hosts, now it has one. Ok, moving on.

Miel Brado is the kind of poweder keg of a comedic mind that you both want to meet but also vaguely fear. Each week a classic song is dissected line for line, bar for bar, as the host aims her flailing comedic water cannons seemingly at random. Part of you is in awe, part of you wants to duck and cover, part of you thinks ‘well, if this is how I go, this is how I go.’

Your favourite songs will be ripped apart for their lyrical content, but also songs you might have overlooked will be presented to you in a fresh light.

Brado is virtually fearless in her comittment to comedy, but also has the musical chops to back up even her most outrageous bits. RIFFS ON RIFFS, GUYS. As with any musical/comedy venture they can’t all be home runs, but isn’t that the point of being creative?

Each episode is front-loaded with facts (but don’t fact check her) and her guests from the world of comedy ensure a wonderful level of additional nerdy knowledge as they delve into their personal history with the song.

If you’re looking for a genuinely funny music podcast with a unabashedly feminist host, then this is for you. And she only talks about edging like twice per episode. Maybe thrice.

Can you sleep to it:

Negatory.

Recommended Episode:

Jump in to the latest episode on Intergalactic, which is a lot of fun. Then jump back to the magnum opus of former co-host Demi, with the episode on Welcome to the Jungle.
