Spaceships Podcast Review
The Pitch:
A sci-fi comedy podcast about sentient spaceships.
The Product:
What qualifies as a podcast these days is pretty fluid, for better or worse. Every so often though, the malleable medium presents something new and refreshing to listen to. I didn’t have “audio comedy series about sentient spaceships in a post-humanity galaxy” on my bingo card for podcasts in 2022, but here we are!
Readers of Podcasteroid may not be surprised to learn this recommendation came from the desk of The On and Off Theatre Workshop, who put out similarly well-crafted audio labours of love. Spaceships features lush soundscapes, snappy writing, and a cast of voice actors who are extremely committed to their craft.
And those of us who don’t listen to so much American-made audiodrama/comedy may find this commitment a little jarring at first. This show blasts off fast, with the lead characters fully formed, and the voice actors truly going for it. It’s very much a case of strapping in for the interstellar journey, being instantly launched into the fictional world, and hoping you survive the G-force until you get your bearings.
Presuming you do make it a couple of episodes into the series with all your limbs attached, you’ll likely find yourself drawn towards the ‘next episode’…
