Storytime with Seth Rogen — Podcasteroid Review

The Pitch:

Seth Rogen hosts a series of mini documentaries.

The Product

When I heard that another actor was releasing an interview-based podcast into an already bloated market I wasn’t exactly overcome with excitement. I like Seth Rogen. I’m actually a really big fan of Seth Rogen. From Freaks and Geeks all the way up to Longshot via Superbad, I’m pretty much guaranteed to be there for his content, having a good time.

I also loved his recent book Yearbook. But I was worried this latest output might taint the Canadian chuckler for me slightly. Does the world really need another guy in Hollywood interviewing his celebrity friends?

I’m happy to report I was wrong in my fears. Dead wrong. And shame on me, honestly. Seth has shown himself time and time again to be an excellent storyteller, and this podcast (or at least the handful of episodes to date) are no different.

As a host and interviewer Rogen is as you’d expect: personable, engaging, entertaining. And it’s a testament to his talent that this level of charisma is par for the course for him.

Setting Storytime apart are the narrative through lines and story beats that Seth has set out for you, to be found like a stash of ice cream and chocolate during the height of the munchies.

The first episode with Quinta Brunson follows up on a celebrity encounter she had with Paul Rudd, and her story sets off a series of follow up calls that are very satisfying to any storytelling/story-consuming completionist out there. It really is a strong opening episode, that shows the type of stories that will be showcased, the level of work in an episode, and the range of interviewees that will be featured.

So it’s not just celebrities here. And even if it was ‘just celebrities’ it would still be well worth your time.

Can You Sleep To It?

This might be the first podcast I think you could re-listen to — and maybe you could sleep on the second listen. Maybe. If you’re okay with that signature laugh haunting your dreams.

Recommended Episode:

Start with the aforementioned episode with Quinta Brunson (and Paul Rudd).
