Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know Podcast Review
The Pitch:
A podcast about conspiracy theories.
The Product:
It’s spooky season so it’s a good time to feature STDWYTK, the weirder cousin of Stuff You Should Know, which focuses on conspiracy theories, the supernatural, and a little bit of true crime.
I was actually backdoored into this podcast via Ridiculous History, a show that features two of the same hosts in Ben Bowlin and Noel Brown. Joined by Matt Frederick, the guys apply their same dry wit to what is a more subjective subject matter here.
Conspiracies have been pushed to the forefront of the zeitgeist lately, largely due to social media and a news cycle machine determined to cash in on our fears, regardless of the damaging impact. But fear not — there is a healthy serving of skepticism from the hosts, who value science as much as they really, really want to believe in the supernatural.
What I’m saying is, even though the topics covered can be topical, most of the conspiracies are the fun conspiracies of old. Ones that didn’t, say, create a hate-filled division in a world superpower for example.
No, these conspiracies are for those of us who trust science, but maybe don’t always believe that a government has our best interests at heart…
