The Hamish & Andy Show Podcast Review

--

The Pitch:

Two Australian comedians (and Jack) have fun, basically.

The Product:

Hamish Blake and Andy Lee are a big deal in Oceania. Their drivetime radio show brought in 2.7 million listeners (although Wikipedia doesn’t tell me if that is total, daily or otherwise and I’ll be damned if I put in more research), and the podcast version of the show had 1 million weekly listeners.

This was a ‘podcast’ in the traditional radio sense. It took the radio show, stripped it of the songs, and was there for people to catch up on the events of the day.

And at a certain point, people outside of Australia started to catch on. It required a bit of work. There were interviews, and one off segments about the news, but what these boys like to do is create content and concepts that can span over a week or more. And you have to put the time in to get immersed in their world.

There were plenty of bits and skits, but it was the regular segments that — as hoped — bring people back, time and time again. It’s hard to pin down why it worked so well. But at the core is an odd couple/best friends duo with the type of chemistry most radio hosts could only dream of.
