You’re Wrong About Podcast Review
The Pitch:
A podcast about pop culture misconceptions.
The Product:
Compared to some of the other podcasts covered here recently(ish), You’re Wrong About is pretty straightforward. Every week(ish), journalist Sarah Marshall is joined by a guest to discuss a person or event that has been miscast in the public imagination.
It’s a fun premise, and one that allows a broad range of topics, from the borderline witch-hunt of Sinead O’Connor to the Beanie Babies craze. There’s a definite air of moorish nostalgia in some episodes, while others seek to reframe our history through modern, more informed eyes.
There are occasional multi-episode topics, like the OJ Simpson trial or the Princes Diana car crash, but these feel more like hearty comfort meals during the winter, rather than overfilled all-you-can-eat-buffet plates.
And what’s particularly good here is the sense of comfort that a well-made podcast can bring, despite how heavy the topics or how admonishing the show’s name may appear. There’s a clear vision on what the podcast should be, a regular cadence, and return guests to latch on to. It’s so good in this regard, that this reviewer would never have known that there were originally two co-hosts, until 2021.
Can You Sleep To It?
I don’t think it’s ideal for sleep, no.
Recommended Episode:
It’s a good show to dig around and pick an episode with an interesting topic.
